Born in Cleveland, Ohio, Dunn Pearson Jr. is one of the most accomplished and versatile creative forces in American music. Lauded as one of the top African American music composers to achieve major success across every genre of entertainment — movies, television, Broadway, recording, and commercials.
In 1975, Dunn joined the touring band as organist for the O'Jays, later becoming arranger, conductor, writer, and producer of many award-winning productions. He went on to orchestrate for Mary J. Blige, score films for Columbia Pictures and Miramax, and orchestrate a Broadway musical.
His peers gave him the nickname "Black Beethoven" — not as a comparison, but as a crown. Because like Beethoven, Dunn composed from the soul outward, and the music he made changed everything it touched.
